Legal & Standards

Built to stand up in court — anywhere.

Trustetch is cryptographic evidence built to the standards courts use. It is not a government authority and claims no official endorsement — its authority is open, independently-verifiable math, plus the right certificate for each jurisdiction. That honesty is the point: it's exactly what survives opposing counsel.

01 — Jurisdictions

Where Trustetch evidence is valid.

Each entry below is backed by a real statute and the certificate or witness that jurisdiction expects. We never imply a country's government endorses Trustetch — we name the law its courts apply, and the document we ship so your evidence meets it.

02 — Open standards

The open standards we implement.

These are facts about how Trustetch is built, not endorsements by the bodies that publish them. Every one is a public, documented standard that anyone — your lawyer, an opposing expert, a court — can verify independently, without trusting us.

01

SHA-256 / SHA-512

Cryptographic hashing over the exact media bytes. Change one pixel and the digest no longer matches. Anyone can re-hash the file and compare.

FIPS 180-4
02

Ed25519 signatures

A digital signature over a canonical record. Anyone can verify it against our published public key — no access to Trustetch required.

RFC 8032 · FIPS 186-5
03

RFC 3161 timestamps

A trusted timestamp token (eIDAS-format) binds the proof to a moment that can't be back-dated. The token verifies against the authority's certificate.

04

OpenTimestamps → Bitcoin

A commitment lands in a Bitcoin block — trustless, public and effectively permanent. Verify it against the public blockchain, with no involvement from us.

05

C2PA-aligned provenance

A provenance manifest aligned to the C2PA standard records device, capture method and edit history alongside the sealed media — inspectable by anyone.

03 — Verify without trusting us

How any court or expert checks it — without trusting us.

A Trustetch proof is designed to be checked entirely offline, by an opposing expert who assumes we are adversarial. Nothing depends on Trustetch being online, in business, or honest.

01

Re-hash the file

Run SHA-256/512 on the media and compare to the sealed digest. A single altered byte makes it fail — no special tool needed.

02

Verify the signature

Check the Ed25519 signature against our published public key. It confirms the record came from Trustetch and hasn't changed.

03

Confirm the time

Validate the RFC 3161 timestamp token, and confirm the OpenTimestamps commitment in a real Bitcoin block — both independent of us.

04

Sign the certificate

Every evidence PDF ships with a ready-to-sign certificate matched to the jurisdiction — e.g. Section 65B / BSA 2023 (India) or an FRE 902(13)/(14) declaration (US) — for a human witness to sign.

04 — Honest scope

What we are. What we are not.

We are deliberate about the limits of a Trustetch proof — because a claim a court can attack is worse than no claim at all. This is the section opposing counsel will read first; it's written to survive them.

What Trustetch is

  • Cryptographic evidence that a specific file existed, unaltered, by a specific time.
  • Built to the evidence standards courts use, with the correct certificate for each jurisdiction.
  • Independently verifiable by anyone, offline, forever — no need to trust us.

What Trustetch is not

  • Not a government body, court, or official authority — and we claim no endorsement from any.
  • Not a guarantee of admissibility — the court decides admissibility and weight.
  • Not "qualified" under eIDAS today — that presumption applies only once a qualified (QTSP) timestamp is attached.

Why this honesty is a feature. Evidence is destroyed in cross-examination when a vendor over-claims. By stating precisely what is proven (math), what is self-reported, and who decides admissibility (the court), a Trustetch proof gives opposing counsel nothing to puncture — which is exactly why it holds up.
